When I googled myself...

The majority of what I found were links to reviews from plays I have been in or organizations I am a part of. There are also some videos of auditions and interviews I have done.

Here is a link to a recent review for The Ladies Man

Here is a link to an arts organization I work(ed) for
PATA

Here is a link to a video interview with me for How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents

I really need to remove some photos from myspace that involve me being dressed in ways I wouldn't want my students to see. I also want to remove all photos of myself drinking.

I do think that it is important to be a positive role model to students and therefore adhering to community standards is a good idea. I think violence and substance abuse are things that teachers should not be related with. I also think that if you put it out there than you should stand behind it, so if we should be held accountable for our speech.

In the article I thought it was interesting that a student teacher would actually have subbmitted such forbid images as the dotted line that said "cut here". I can't understand how a person wouldn't realize that this is a negative image that should not be projected to impressionable youth. If that is the message you are trying to send then you should get out of teacher.

To protect myself I am going to be careful about what I choose to share publically online. I will also try to google myself frequently so that I can edit what comes.

  1. Hey there friend! While I totally agree that we should be positive role models, I wonder about the dilemma of being associated with drinking. While students should obviously not be drinking... we, as teachers, are of age and not necessarily engaging in inappropriate behavior. I certainly don't want a half naked picture of me passed out under a table... bad. But sipping a margarita at a family reunion might not be the end of the world. What do you think?? :)

  2. I also agree that we should be positive role models. And part of that should be showing that adults can legally consume alcohol in reasonable sedate manners without becoming drunken idiots. Of course, in reality, some communities are not interested in the gray areas of life, and will indeed hold it against a teacher even if they are engaging in legal, responsible drinking. I think the problem is in part the idea that somehow faculty should be held to the student's conduct code out of "fairness", when in truth faculty are not students and should be held to a different code.

Off topic, again, I loved the show! You were great. The work on accents by everyone in the cast was evident and enhanced the production wonderfully.

  3. Well, well, well...look who googles themselves. So there was a lot to find for the actress? But I totally agree with you about getting rid of the picture that are comprimising or privatizing them so only select people can see them. It is a sign of the times that we must be careful what is out there because employers will be checking! And it will never surprise me with what people will put out there thinking is cool or just to get attention. Well....until tomorrow

  4. We do need to think about what is out there and what message it may be conveying. We may think something is fine while a student make think soemthing totally different.
